Raj Dhillon
Senior Manager, Advocacy & Public Policy

Raj Dhillon (he/him) has nearly a decade of experience in coalition-building, government and community relations, and legislative analysis and advocacy.  He currently serves as the Senior Manager of Advocacy & Public Policy for Breathe Southern California, a 501(c)(3) environmental health nonprofit organization focused on sustainable solutions for air quality and lung health.  Previously, Raj worked for Senate Majority Leader Robert M. Hertzberg dating back to Senator Hertzberg’s 2014 campaign for State Senate.  In 2019, Raj received a California Senate Resolution for his commendable service to the State of California.

Arriving at Breathe SoCal to revitalize the Advocacy & Public Policy department that he leads, Raj pursues policies, sponsors and supports legislation, and backs regulatory rulemaking across federal, state, and local levels of government to improve lung health.  Additionally, he implements strategies to improve air quality, including transitioning medium- and heavy-duty trucks to cleaner alternatives and working with stakeholders to develop pathways to utilizing zero-emissions technologies.  In 2021, Breathe SoCal was honored with a “Leadership in Air Quality” Award from the South Coast Air Quality Management District for their innovative approach to addressing air pollution with their End Diesel Now campaign, which Raj leads.

 

Prior to joining Breathe SoCal, his time in Senator Hertzberg’s office is where Raj developed the largest and most comprehensive internship program in the legislature while having spearheaded research on several topics that included government efficiency, tax reform, sustainability, and housing/homelessness. In 2019, Raj received a California Senate Resolution for his commendable service to the State of California.

 

Raj earned his B.A. in Political Science & Government and his Master of Public Administration (MPA) from California State University, Northridge (CSUN).  He proudly serves on multiple boards, including the Advisory Board of CSUN’s MPA Program; as Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of New Directions for Youth, Inc., a comprehensive youth development organization; and on the Advisory Committee of the National Stewardship Action Council, a nonprofit focused on creating a circular economy.  Furthermore, Raj is involved in multiple startup ventures and maintains an active network in local political circles.

Ivan Fonseca
Public Policy and Communication Coordinator

Ivan Fonseca (He/Him) Is a recent graduate from the University of California Irvine. He currently serves as Public Policy and Communication Coordinator for Breathe Southern California, a 501(c)(3) environmental health nonprofit organization focused on sustainable solutions for air quality and lung health. As an undergraduate Ivan Fonseca ran and was elected to serve as Senator of the Associated Students of University of California Irvine and within a year will be elevated to serve as Senate President. As Senate President he will lead the legislative efforts of the Associated Students of California Irvine. Serving through the struggles of a global pandemic.

Born and raised in Compton California Ivan has been involved in politics all over Southern California from working on an electoral campaign for the 74th State Assembly helping to re-elect Cottie Petrie Norris in South Orange country to interning in the 44th congressional district office with Nannette Barragán in south LA. Ivan hopes to continue to work and advocate for the most vulnerable population of Southern California especially those who have struggles with the effects of environmental injustice and inequalities.

Ivan earned his BA in Political Science and in Urban studies from the University of California Irvine (UCI) and is currently in pursuit of his Masters in Public Administration (MPA) at the California State University Los Angeles (CSULA).
