BEAM: Breathe Easier™ Asthma Management

Asthma management or asthma remediation is a personalized range of services designed to improve the quality of life through asthma symptom reduction. While there is no cure, controlling asthma and minimizing symptoms is possible. Breathe Southern California (Breathe SoCal) offers at-home asthma management services through its Breathe Easier™ Asthma Management (BEAM) program.

BEAM offers various services to those that participate, including:

  • Minor mold removal

  • Pest management

  • Air Purifiers

  • Asthma/allergy friendly cleaning products

  • Dust covers for beds and pillows

  • Tailored one-on-one asthma education to children and adults

How does BEAM work?

Two young girls are playing with a flashlight and a small handheld device while sitting on a green couch in a living room. One girl is wearing a gray shirt with colorful designs and the other is wearing a pink shirt with floral patterns. A background with curtains and a small table with decorations is visible.

Breathe SoCal’s health educators schedule a home visit. They ask about symptoms and current medication management. They then review the living space for potential environmental triggers. They make recommendations based on their findings and provide the necessary education and resources. If needed, they schedule a follow up visit.

How much does this cost?

These services are FREE for Medi-Cal members of any age. Breathe SoCal is currently in contract with the following insurance providers:

  • Health Net

  • Inland Empire Health Plan (IEHP)

  • L.A. Care Health Plan

  • Molina Healthcare

In January 2022, the Department of Health Care Services launched California Advancing and Innovating Medi-Cal (CalAIM). CalAIM allows community-based organizations to provide healthcare-related services through Community Supports. As a Community Support, asthma remediation is covered under CalAIM with no financial cost to the patient. Asthma remediation programs cover up to a payable total lifetime maximum of $7,500.

*Note: There is additional coverage for individuals who may not have the listed Medi-Cal managed care plans.
